Felting is my favorite fiber activity. My mother's is probably spinning, but as she is an amazing feltmaker, I won't hold it against her. The ever popular needle felting method is an extremely versatile and easy way to make felt. Felting needles have tiny barbs on them that cause the tiny scales on wool fibers to catch and eventually form a fabric. We offer an assortment of needle felting tools and foam forms (invented by the creative Suzanne Higgs) for sale. All foam forms come with directions on how to make that particular item, and some examples of things made with the forms are on the Felted Goods page. Foam forms, made of a special high density foam, last for several projects. We have 1 particular hat form that has made over 30 hats, so as you can see they are quite durable.
In regards to the ever popular hat forms, most people wear a size medium.However, different fibers often affect the fit. Fine wools such as merino and cormo usually make a tighter hat than say border leicester or romney. Please e-mail us if you intend to use fibers other than wool.
